Who We Are
APBA is a non-profit society made up of individuals who share an interest in poultry. Our members include small flock owners, poultry breeders, hobbyists, conservationists, exhibitors, farmers, 4H members and general enthusiasts.
What We Do
Shows: Each year APBA organizes at least two poultry shows. Poultry shows are an excellent public forum to showcase breed diversity and bring to light the quality of chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks being bred right here in Alberta. These shows gather people together for networking, buying and selling, knowledge-sharing and friendship. They are also a lot of fun!
Information: We compile and distribute quarterly newsletters to inform and inspire our members. We conduct interviews with successful breeders to facilitate the sharing of their valuable knowledge and the insights they have gained through experience. Our social media resources help build connections within the world of standard bred poultry.
Support: Members of all ages and all levels of expertise are most welcome and encouraged to join! As a club member you'll be invited to educational seminars and hands-on workshops to help you find success in your poultry venture. Our members provide youth and family mentoring, and we partner with 4-H clubs to lend our support to their programs.
Promotion: We present breed displays and printed materials at public venues to demonstrate the diversity of poultry breeds to both urban and rural people.

Why Is This Important?
* Well bred flocks are an important resource for non-commercial farmers and families interested in self-sustainable alternatives
* These birds allow producers to capitalize on unique and niche markets
* Protecting genetic resources and survival traits is a crucial strategy for ensuring future food supplies
* The traditional breeds are a living link to our agricultural history and culture
* Poultry breeds are rapidly diminishing, and many of the master breeders that have spent decades developing and maintaining quality bloodlines are aging. There is a desperate need to engage a younger generation of poultry caretakers and ensure they have the knowledge to be successful.
